The purpose of this project was to transition a steep grade with a multi-level dry stacked limestone retaining wall. The base consisted of compacted chert and 3/4 gravel. A drainage system was installed behind the wall which connected to underground piping.
One project shows a retaining wall used to establish an outline for a plant bed. In the other, a retaining wall application increased the grade for a parking lot. Landscaping boulders were added to establish a border, to create seating platforms, and as side tables.
To address soil erosion and driveway washout from runoff, a plastic culvert pipe was installed to channel water. Dry stacked limestone retaining walls and rip rap were added around and above the pipe openings.
To mitigate gravel washout, trees and brush were removed along the high side of the driveway and a swale was installed to redirect water flow to a plastic culvert pipe installed beneath the road. Along the bank, grass was sowed and covered by straw mats while rip rap was spread in the trough of the swale.
In this project, a swale was installed along a steep hillside to channel water to an adjoining creek, helping to control gravel washout on the road below.
